What is “TI Quality” Battery?

The gas gauge chip on Apple’s original BMS flex cable is supported by Texas Instruments (TI), a company based in the USA.

Over time, the term “TI” has gradually come to represent a certain “quality level” in the aftermarket battery industry. However, that’s not really accurate. In reality, the so-called “TI batteries” or sellers’ claims of “TI flex” often refer to very different things.

So what exactly is a “TI battery”?

It refers to a battery made by Chinese battery factories, where the gas gauge chip is taken (pulled) from an original Apple BMS flex, then re‑mounted onto a new flex cable, combined with other materials to produce an aftermarket battery.

In other words, “TI” is originally the name of a company (Texas Instruments) that supplies the gas gauge chip for iPhone original batteries. What people now call “TI batteries” are aftermarket batteries that reuse a used TI gas gauge chip removed from an old iPhone battery.

But if that’s the case, what are the differences among these “TI batteries”?

We’ll explain more in the following blog post.
